WDS is about inspiring the vision & setting the goals, creating the space to create massive action & celebrating the results! 1, 2, 3 YOU ROCK is something you will often hear singing out from our studios!
“Pure Positive Dance is how the studio describes itself, and last night (Sunday Dec 4th, 2011) showed a vibrant and brave core in the centre of hip hop divas & classical ballerinas…. What is certain about 2012 is that WDS dancers will continue to reward themselves with health, vitality & the joy of creative expression” Lara Chester, independent journalist
For a small community town, Woolgoolga LOVES to dance!
Woolgoolga Dance Studio has existed in the Woolgoolga community for well over 28 years.
It is unique in the sense that was initially created as a non-profit community organisation run by a committee of volunteers. These volunteers were largely dancing Mums who were committed to there being the opportunity for a dance school to exist in Woolgoolga.
This committee hired teachers & brought them into the community.
In 1996, they took on the current lease in Featherstone Dr & laid the wooden performance stage from the Coffs Harbour Civic Centre, into the studio. This floor still exists, but has now been covered over with a Tarkett dance floor.
The studio then after hiring venues around Woolgoolga, took over the lease for the bay next door, again the floor was laid by volunteers- the teachers & the committee all banded together to get the 2nd studio up & running.
In 2004, heavily pregnant Rebecca Ross bought her bid forward to the committee to buy the studio & turn it into a private business (with the support of husband Tony & Mum Kathy) – the vote was passed & an end of an era came about for WDS. The studio had grown so much over the past 5 years, this was a necessary step forward for WDS to continue to grow & move forward into what exists today.
August 15th 2009, WDS opened its 3rd studio space & front office for WDS admin.
WDS is about finding a connection to who you are through dance….. “Pure, Positive DANCE!”
Dance is a gift, a tool that allows students to access a creative, positive, joyful aspect of themselves.
Creating Life skills, through Dance
